Are rebates and refunds the same thing?
Rebates and refunds are different from one another. Rebates are the 1% and 5% returns you get from purchases made with your REI Visa card; a member refund (typically 10%) is the return that REI members get each year that's based on REI's profits and your individual purchase amounts at REI. Your rebates and member refund are added together to create your annual REI dividend.
How do purchase returns affect my rebate balance?
The 1% and 5% rebates from all returns credited to your REI Visa card account will be deducted from your rebate balance. Returns made in January will not be recalculated on the prior year's purchases but may be reflected as a negative on the next year's refund. The merchandise return date and your billing cycle will determine if REI receives information to recalculate totals before rebates are calculated.
